On October 14, Science Translational Medicine withdrew a 2022 study on the immune response to COVID-19 vaccination. The article, titled «Vaccination targeting the SARS-CoV-2 S2 protein induces the production of broadly neutralizing antibodies», argued that vaccination against the S2 protein produced antibodies capable of broadly neutralizing the virus. The decision came after an investigation by the Francis Crick Institute in London, where the first author, Kevin W. Ng, was working at the time of publication.
According to the editorial note, the investigation established the presence of «fabricated data» and «falsified images».
Completely fabricated data and deliberately doctored images have been uncovered to demonstrate the alleged production of neutralizing antibodies.
